Statement of Significance

Christopher's House (Bishop Green's House), 121 Hawdon Street, Heidelberg , is a single storey residence believed to have been built for draper John Christopher in the early 1860's. Bishop Green lived in the house between c. 1920-1941. A cast iron verandah, with a frieze but no brackets, is a feature of the stuccoed house. Bay window, plinth and the roofs are other features.

Christopher's House (Bishop Green's House), 121 Hawdon Street, Heidelberg, is a notable early house in the district and is an example of a villa of the period. The house also forms part of the historic townscape of Heidelberg. Architecturally the dwelling is in the Italianate style and is fairly typical of its era. The cast iron verandah is notable for its transitional nature between the frieze-less verandahs of the 1850s and the later more elaborate types complete with brackets.

Christopher's House (Bishop Green's House), 121 Hawdon Street, Heidelberg, is in good condition and is largely intact.
