ELTHAM STUDY STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: This site features extensive Radiata Pine plantings to most of the boundaries, as well as a driveway avenue and is a good example of the use of this species in a rural environment. Adding to the significance of this site is the planting of a line of Bhutan Cypress trees between the residence and the line of Radiata Pine trees, which is an unusual doubling of shelter, perhaps in an attempt to create privacy with a more ornamental plant: Most trees are in good condition. REVISED STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE (with AHC criteria) MONTEREY PINE & BHUTAN CYPRESS ROWS, and Henzel farm house are significant to Panton Hill: - for the extensive Monterey pines plantings to boundaries and a driveway avenue, as a good example in the locality of the traditional use of this species in a farming environment (Criterion A4, D2); - for the line of mature Bhutan Cypress trees between the residence as the ornamental part of the planting which relates well to the inter-war development of the farm (Criterion A4, D2); - for the long association of both trees and house with Herbert Henzel, a local farmer, and its historical association with the pioneering Mess family (Criterion A4).
