How is it significant?

The Brickworks Housing Precinct is of local historical and architectural significance to the City of Moreland.

Why is it significant?

The Brickworks Housing Precinct is of local historical significance as a reflection of the development of the highly important brick industry in Brunswick and of the influence of the Hoffman Brickworks and its associated land investment company in the shaping of Brunswick.

The Brickworks Housing Precinct is of local architectural significance for a number of individually important places, including the Brunswick Technical School and the company cottages in Munro Street. The north side of Munro Street contains mostly double-fronted Victorian and Edwardian timber cottages, whilst on the south side most of the single-storey detached cottages are of the Edwardian period. A near intact Edwardian shop is located at 62 Munro Street. Number 16 Barry Street is a brick house occupied for a short period by John Curtain and his parents when they lived in Brunswick in the first decade of the 20th century.
