The c1875 former State school sandstone building, the early 20th century alterations, the abutting building and the surrounding site to a radius of 15 metres.

How is it significant?
The c1875 former State school building is historically and socially significant to the Shire of Nillumbik.

Why is it significant?
The c1875 former State school building is historically significant as a rare surviving example, in Melbourne, of a local sandstone, single room State school building, as one of Eltham's oldest public buildings and as a reminder of Eltham's development as a township (Criteria A & B). The school is socially significant because it has served the local community for over 130 years (Criteria G & H).
