Statement of Significance

What is significant?
How is it significant?
Why is it significant?
Architecturally, the pair is unusual in the State context, judged within a building form (row house) which is common in inner Melbourne but not in Bendigo. The stylistic references are unusual and relate strongly to contemporary American villa design which, in turn, connects with other American-influenced designs such as Chandler's carpenter Gothic-styled The Eyrie, in Reginald Street (1897). It is also a major contributor to an important residential streetscape.

Historically, little is known of the major owner or occupiers' contribution to the area's history.
