Statement of Significance

The Californian redwoods in Gembrook Park are significant to the Cardinia Shire because they provide evidence of mature ornamental planting in one of the district's popular resorts.

They also symbolise the development of the park as a recreational centre, are associated with a locally prominent person (Knight) and are rare as a type (redwood) within the Shire.

Although apparently not linked to the Acclimatisation Society history of the park, the trees (set among mature gums) are potentially symbolic of the society's attempts to naturalise exotic species within the Australian bushland.
