City of Maribyrnong Heritage Review Statement of Significance: The J.H. Hooper house is significant to the City of Maribyrnong because: Footscray Conservation Study SOS Architecturally, a typical large conservatively designed suburban villa type with altered details. Historically, the home of prominent persons, particularly Hoadley, who was known nationally and Hooper whose business once reached most parts of Victoria and whose name is foremost among Footscray's 19th and early 20th century commercial figures. Australian Heritage Commission (AHC) criteria The Australian Heritage Commission criteria consist of a set of eight criteria which cover social, aesthetic, scientific, and historic values. Each criterion has sub-criteria written specifically for cultural or natural values. - historically, it was the home of prominent persons in the history of Australia and the City, particularly Hoadley who was known nationally and Hooper whose business once reached most parts of Victoria and whose name is foremost among Footscray's 19th and early 20th century commercial figures ( Criterion H1);
- of its contributory role within a notable group of houses built by prominent persons, both within Footscray and the State, during a number of key eras in the City's history (Criterion A3); and
- its owner's association with the development of commerce and industry in the City when the Footscray municipality led the State in industrial development.
