Why is it significant? It is aesthetically important (Criterion E) for its consistency in
typical detail in the facade, roof forms and chimneys (Criterion D).
Kelvin Terrace, comprising 12 attached houses constructed between
1887 and 1889 for John Thomson, at 42-64 Margaret Street, Moonee Ponds
is significant.
Kelvin Terrace at 42-64 Margaret Street, Moonee Ponds is of local
historic and aesthetic significance to the City of Moonee Valley.
It is historically significant (Criterion A) as a place that
demonstrates the early impact of the Essendon railway line on the
settlement of the area as a large speculative development erected
during the height of the land boom.
