STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

George F Love Memorial Hall

113 Lonsdale Street

This building has local significance as part of the Methodist (now Uniting) church complex bounded by Alexandra Parade, Cox and Lonsdale Streets. The Hall was opened in 1927 and nNamed after Geo F Love, father Jean Love, a local songbird. ([i]) It continues the Gothic Revival style of the earlier buildings. To mark the centenary of Victorian Methodism, a Centenary Hall was added in 1935. ([ii]) A link has been built between the hall and the church. The George F Love Hall is substantially intact and is in good condition. It contributes to the streetscape.
