Benvenula is of local architectural and historical significance. Benvenula was the home of Thomas McLean, a local industrialist and some time Mayor of Northcote. Later it was owned by Charles Trescowthick, another powerful Northcote industrialist. Architecturally, it is an unusual arrange of connected pavilions with a tower and distinctive chimneys. Most of the grounds have been built over in the Bungalow style in 1920s, and many of these now surround Benvenula.
