The house known for a period as "Tigh-na-bruaick" (?) at no. 75 Maribyrnong Road, Ascot Vale, was built for Samuel Bruce by 1887. It is of historic and aesthetic importance. It is historically important (Criterion A) for its capacity to demonstrate along with other similar villas in its locale the manner in which the elevated land near the Ascot Vale and Moonee Ponds railway stations attracted prestigious villa residences during the Land Boom. It is aesthetically important as a large villa residence of its period representative of a common type characterised by two storeyed corner cast iron verandahs terminated by projecting wings.
