Statement of Significance

The former Congregational Church at no. 246 Ascot Vale Road, Ascot Vale was built in 1885 and extended in 1902. It is important for its capacity to demonstrate the manner of worship of the Congregationalists since absorbed into the Uniting Church (Criterion A) and as a late nineteenth century and Federation period church in the Gothic Revival mode, occupying a prominent position in the Ascot Vale Road streetscape. The symmetrical facade treatment and banded arch faintly recalling the preceding era of structural polychromatic work are important stylistic elements (Criterion E).
