How is it significant?
This Algerian oak is significant for its outstanding size, its good form, its contribution to the landscape of the street, and as a good example of the species, and is classified as of significance at the Regional level.
Why is it significant?
This Algerian oak is the largest specimen in an avenue of oaks along The Eyrie. The avenue as a whole contributes significantly to the streets landscape. This tree in particular is near a bend in the avenue and is visible from both directions. Its large stem and broad crown make it an impressive feature in the landscape. This tree may predate the surrounding subdivision. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the tree was planted as part of an Arbor Day tree planting as early as 1920.
