How is it significant?
This tree is significant for scientific, social and aesthetic reasons at the Regional level.
Why is it significant?
This Lawson Cypress is socially significant for its contribution to the landscape as a focal point on the former site of the Sisters of St Joseph convent. The space between the plantings has allowed the tree to take its full natural form which can be viewed and appreciated without obstruction. The tree is also aesthetically significant for its visually stunning drooping form. Other listed plants of this species are often planted among groves or too close to other large specimens, resulting in fastigiate growth habits and weak vigour due to the increased competition. With such qualities, the tree is scientifically significant for being an important source of propagating stock.
