How is it significant?
This tree is significant for historic and social reasons at the Regional level.
Why is it significant?
This Southern Magnolia is a good specimen with an alleged historic connection with Baron Ferdinand von Mueller. The tree is one of five trees believed to have been imported into this region by Baron Ferdinand von Mueller in the 1860’s. Only this tree and two other specimens (located at Alzburg Resort and the Magnolia House in Mansfield) have been found. Another specimen was believed to be in Merton (not found) and the fifth example has most likely died.
This tree is also socially significant for its contribution to the landscape/streetscape of the Jamieson township.
