The Mexican Fan Palm is scientifically significant for its outstanding size, in particular its impressive height. The tree is also significant for its contribution to the landscape as a landmark. The tree has historic significance as it is a part of a collection in the historic Warrnambool Botanic Gardens. It is likely that this tree was planted to observe Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1897 (has not been confirmed).
