An individual Yellow Box tree growing in a heathy dry forest on private land which is protected under a Trust for Nature Covenant.
How is it significant?
This Yellow Box is significant for scientific and landscape reasons at the Regional level.
Why is it significant?
This Yellow Box is scientifically significant as it is an outstanding example of the species. It is a larger and potentially older specimen compared to others in the near vicinity. The La Nina summer of 2021/2022 has seen a significant increase in leaf density, flowers and eventually seeds. The tree is also significant for its contribution to the landscape. It survived the landscape modifications of the 1850s gold rush and early settlement. It also survived severe droughts in the area and it is unhindered in its growth. The property is now protected under a Trust for Nature covenant.
