STATEMENT OF CULTURAL HERITAGE SIGNIFICANCE

What is significant?

A large Eucalyptus tereticornis (Forest Red Gum) located in the school grounds of Nagle College in Bairnsdale.

How is it significant?

The Eucalyptus tereticornis (Forest Red Gum) is significant for scientific, social and aesthetic reasons at Regional level.

Why is it significant?

This Eucalyptus tereticornis (Forest Red Gum) is an outstanding example of the species with excellent form and a height of 40m, circumference of 1.65m and spread between 23-25m. The Nagle College site was built in the 1980s, and was choosen due to the significance of this existing Forest Red Gum specimen. The tree is seen as an icon of the school, with students propagating seedlings from it each year that are given to departing year 12 students on graduation. There is another example of Eucalyptus tereticornis located at the nearby Bairnsdale Secondary College (T11287).
