What is significant?
This large Mountain ash is located in the Great Otway National Park, on the west branch of the Barham River. It is one of a set of large old growth trees in Victoria (T12342, T12343, T12344, T12345, T12346, T12348, T12349, T12350, T12351, T12356, T12357, T12358), including another nearby Mountain ash on the register T12358.
How is it significant?
This Mountain ash (Eucalyptus regnans) is significant for scientific reasons at State level.
Why is it significant?
This Mountain ash is outstanding for its size, with a height of 79.5m, spread of 25m and girth of 13.5m. It is an outstanding example of the species as a virtually intact tree. This area of the Otway Ranges has a high rainfall, supporting lush ferns and dense forests. This is the largest Mountain ash in the Colac Otway region, with the next largest at Apollo Bay measuring 76m (T11055).
