The Purpleberry Cotoneaster (Cotoneaster affinis) at Glenormiston Homestead is the only known example in Victoria and is an important feature of the historic garden. The tree's size and form, contrasting upper and lower leaf surfaces and clusters of dark purple berries are attractive features in the landscape.
The earliest known record of Cotoneaster affinis in Victoria is the plants listing in Thomas Lang Catalogue of Plants in 1865. It is possible that this plant is more than 100 years old.
The tree is growing on a lawn, west of lecture and library buildings.
