Statement of Significance

Contribution to landscape

The River Red Gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) is one of 9 trees extending both north and south of Alphington Station. This main tree, on the southern side is clearly much older than the others. The population is a remnant of the woodlandthat occurred on the eastern Keilor basalt plains
In 1992 to 1995 a community led regeneration program replaced sown grass undercover with native vegetation. This allowed for significant tree regeneration to take place and naturally sown E camaldulensis saplings are now present.
