Statement of Significance

What is significant? The pipe organ at St Carthage's Church is a largely unaltered example of the work of George Fincham, now placed in its second location.
How is it significant? The organ is significant for historic, aesthetic and technical reasons at a regional level.
Why is it significant? The pipe organ at St Carthage's Church, Parkville is significant for the following reasons:
. It includes the original casework, decorated facade pipes, internal pipework, windchests, wind system, swell box, mechanism and pipework
. The instrument has sustained few alterations and the metal fluework is almost entirely cone tuned
. The case design avoids the use of Fincham's signature cases with two or three projecting towers of pipes, probably on account of cost; the facade pipes, unusually for the period, are of spotted metal, and may have been second-hand or from stock
. It is a rare example of a Fincham organ that remains in a high state of originality
