The house, constructed c.1856-58, at 62 Electra Street, Williamstown.

How is it Significant?

The house at 62 Electra Street, Williamstown is of local historic and aesthetic significance to the City of Hobsons Bay.

Why is it Significant?

Historically, it is significant as one of a small number of surviving pre-1860 dwellings in Williamstown and demonstrates the early development associated with the port by its associations with the original owner, Alfred Branford. (AHC criteria A4 and G1)

Aesthetically, it is significant as an early example of a two-storey house built in a relatively uncommon material (basalt). It makes an important contribution to the historic character of Electra Street. (AHC criteria E1 and F1)
