Statement of Significance as recorded under the Queenscliff Heritage Study 2009
The site is of social and historical significance as the premises of the former Cobb & Co. stables. The advent of Cobb & Co. operating from Queenscliff allowed easier access to the settlement. The development of affordable transport from Geelong, Melbourne and further afield was key to the popularity of Queenscliff as a seaside resort. Although the paddle steamers and railway soon became more convenient; travel overland via horse and cart or carriage was the only means of transport for those early tourists. Cobb & Co. remains synonymous with coach transport throughout much of Australia to the present day.
