Rosenfeld, of this group of three pilots houses, is the most mannered and, it is assumed, was Henry Reed's home. The group itself, as a private venture, is a counterpoint to the Pilots' Row which was built by the Colonial Government for the pilot service. These two groups perhaps represent best the beginnings of the Port Phillip pilot service itself, hence this group has statewide historic importance, and of the group, Rosenfeld is the most architecturally prominent.
