Statement of Significance

Statement of Significance as recorded under the Queenscliff Heritage Study 2009

Alikum is of historical significance for its association with early residents who were prominent in the community, including William O'Neill and Henry Reed, who both worked as pilots. It is of historical and architectural significance as a substantially intact example of a mid-nineteenth century house in Queenscliff. It forms part of a cohesive group of early houses in this part of King Street, all of which were constructed by early Queenscliff pilots. Alikum is of additional interest architecturally for its incorporation of an unusual timber cornice element.
