This building is part of a streetscape consisting of one and two-level shops and dwellings, which date from the mid and late Victorian era; all of which are austerely decorated and built to the street alignment. Historically 60 Hesse Street also represents Thomas Arkins' business in Queenscliff, being owned by Arkins until well into this century.(10).
This building is considered to be of major significance as a building that contributes to the area whose conservation is important to the maintenance of the conservation significance of the Hesse Street Commercial Precinct.
