The residence at 20 Clyde Street, Diamond Creek is historically
significant as an early residence in the township of Diamond Creek,
demonstrating its settlement as a township following the gold rush in
the area. The building is of significance for its associations with
the Ryan family who were early and prominent residents in Diamond
Creek. The house was constructed in 1923 during the ownership of
Albert and Ella (nee Ryan) Wilkinson after the site was sold to them
by John Ryan, Ella's brother the two years previously. (Criteria A
& H) The residence at 34 Clyde Street is of aesthetic significance as a
substantially intact California Bungalow demonstrating distinctive
design features, which respond to its corner siting with views. These
features are the return corner verandah and the corner bay window,
both taking advantage of the views from the corner of Cowin and Clyde
Streets. Original features that are representative of the California
Bungalow style include the overall form with gable roofs, the half
stucco and weatherboard exterior cladding, the timber framed windows
with highlights and the shingles to the gable ends. (Criteria D & E)
