Statement of Significance

The former Scout Hall at Mt. Evelyn has local significance for its associations with the Upper Yarra Dam construction site. It is one of several known examples of construction buildings from this major public infrastructure project, another being a caretakers hut which remains at the dam site plus some smaller buildings at Camp Eureka and Willowlake. Since 1952, the hall has developed social significance as an important community meeting place. It has historical associations with a number of district families, including the Kenneys, Falkinghams, Snowballs and Hardys. The present hall was constructed over the old one in 1983 and a storeroom/meeting room was added in 1998.
