Statement of Significance

Beagley's Bridge picnic ground, beside the Sassafras Creek at Kallista, has high local significance, as part of an historic locality, where famous artists and writers from the Sunnyside artists' camp opposite use to walk and ride, and enjoy the beauty of the Dandenongs. The precinct has important associations with such famous Australians as Tom Roberts, C.J. Dennis, Harold Herbert, John Shirlow and Mrs Aeneas Gunn.
