This turn-of-the-century puddling machine site is comparatively well preserved, with a deep trench, sections of side slabbing, a well preserved timber chute in the outlet channel, and a bank of wash. The Puddler No. 1, Rostrons is historically and scientifically important at a LOCAL level as a substantially intact example of an important gold mining technique. Gold mining sites are of crucial importance for the pivotal role they have played since 1851 in the development of Victoria. Overall the Puddler No. 1, Rostrons is of LOCAL significance.
