Statement of Significance

Formed in 1886, the newly formed Moonlight-cum-Magdala, began to mine profitably. The improved showing of the company encouraged several other ventures in the vicinity including the Cross Reef Consolidated, North Magdala and Moonlight Extended, to prospect hitherto untried country.

The North Magdala mine site is historically and scientifically important at a LOCAL level as a substantially intact example of an important gold mining technique. Gold mining sites are of crucial importance for the pivotal role they have played since 1851 in the development of Victoria.
