|
The house at 36 Skene Street, Stawell, makes a significant architectural and visual contribution to the predominantly late 19th and early 20th century residential area. It is significant at a CONTRIBUTORY level, being associated with residential developments in Stawell in the late 19th or early 20th century and it demonstrates some remnant and appropriate design qualities of a Late Victorian style. These qualities include the symmetrical composition, single storey height, hipped roof form with a hipped bullnosed verandah that projects towards the street frontage, dark red painted galvanised corrugated iron roof cladding, horizontal weatherboard wall cladding, timber framed front doorway with sidelights and highlight, four panelled front timber door, timber framed double hung windows, and the narrow eaves adorned with timber brackets, panelling and paterae.
