Statement of Significance

The former Scott Motor Works is of State historical and architectural significance as the oldest and only substantial remnant of the once extensive H.V. McKay factory (not withstanding the early office building in Harvester Road). The building represents in its timber framing, saw-tooth roof and corrugated iron cladding, the typical factory building type which once covered over 60 acres of the Sunshine Harvester Works and which were erected progressively from c.1906, when McKay began expanding the former Braybrook Implement Co. buildings, to the 1950s, the period of greatest expansion of the works. The site is also of significance as the last surviving building relating to the manufacturing activities of Australia's largest agricultural implement works and for its association with the manufacture of small motors, and possibly also motor cars, under the direction of engineer James L Scott.
