WENSLEYDALE COAL MINE - History
The Wensleydale Mine was opened in 1921 when small tunnels were put in to the seam. Open cutting was then carried out until 1935. It was reopened in 1943, and after WWII operations were greatly expanded. The mine closed in 1959 after producing about 3 million tons of coal.WENSLEYDALE COAL MINE - Interpretation of Site
