Statement of Significance
What is significant?
St Andrew's Uniting Church constructed by Page & Bruhn and opened on 1 October 1899, at 32 Ridgway, Mirboo North, is significant. Originally a timber Carpenter Gothic building, it was reclad in brick in 1975. It retains the original gabled form with the vestry within a cross-gable at the rear (added in 1920) and traces of the original details include the pointed arch windows to the nave and the louvred vent to the gable end. The interior remains lined with timber floor to ceiling, and also features art-deco style lighting and a World War I Memorial plaque.
How is it significant?
St Andrew's Uniting Church is of local historic and social significance to the South Gippsland Shire.
Why is it significant?
Historically, it is the oldest church in Mirboo North and is associated with the development of the township and district in the late nineteenth century. It also one of the oldest surviving Presbyterian churches and associated with the early development of the church in the Shire. (Criterion A) It has social significance for its strong and enduring associations with the Mirboo North community through its use as a Church for over 1 2 0 years. It has also been used as a school and a hall for the community. (Criterion G)
