Statement of Significance
SiteCard data copied on 27/11/2025:
What is significant?
Single concrete vat, vat impressions and possible buried archaeological material.
How is it significant?
If ground deposits contain in situ archaeological material the research potential/archaeological values are considered high. However, if evidence of previous use has been destroyed, heavily disturbed, or survives only as scattered fragments and random artefacts, the area is regarded as having low archaeological value.
Heritage Victoria has developed a policy for determining when a site is of low archaeological value. To qualify for listing, certain thresholds must be met:
Threshold A (Archaeology):
The place must meet the legal definition of an archaeological site under the Act.
It must be shown that the site contains archaeological features, associated artefacts, and/or deposits.
Documentary evidence, oral history, landscape features, visible site fabric, or other information must indicate a likelihood that archaeological remains are present.
The remains must be, or be likely to be, in a condition that allows them to contribute to understanding the site.
Threshold B (Place History):
The site must show, or be likely to show, an association with a historical event, period, process, function, tradition, movement, custom, or way of life.
Its history must hold significance within a state, regional, local, thematic, or other relevant framework.
Accordingly, H7624-0032 is assessed as having archaeological value and should be retained on the Heritage Inventory.
Why is it significant?
Using the three standard metrics for assessing heritage significance, the site would have significance at the Local level due to:
Intactness: Enough evidence survives to be able to interpret the site.
Integrity: Above ground poor but possibility of buried remains
Condition: Surviving fabric has not been disturbed
