Why is it significant?
The reinforced concrete bridge over the Powlett River at Outtrim

on a now-bypassed section of road. It was designed by the Reinforced
Concrete & Monier Pipe Construction Co. and constructed in 1914.
The reinforced concrete bridge over the Powlett River at Outtrim
is of local historic and representative significance to South
Gippsland Shire.
It is significance as an early reinforced concrete bridge and one
of two surviving examples in the Shire designed and constructed by the
Reinforced Concrete & Monier Pipe Construction Co., which was a
pioneer in reinforced concrete construction in Victoria. It
demonstrates the early use of concrete as a more permanent alternative
to timber in the construction of bridges in rural areas, which was
encouraged by the establishment of the Country Roads Board in 1914.
