What is significant?
"Russell Court", constructed c.1935, at 36-38 Bair Street, Leongatha.
Why is it significant?
"Russell Court" at 36-38 Bair Street, Leongatha is of local historic and aesthetic interest to the town of Leongatha.
Historically, it is one of a group of buildings that demonstrate the important commercial development of that occurred in Leongatha during the interwar years. It is important as one of the first arcade-style commercial developments in Leongatha, and probably the Shire. (Criteria A & D)
Aesthetically, it is a good and substantially intact example of an interwar shop that retains its original parapet, shopfront, awning and interiors and contributes to the streetscape of Bair Street. (Criterion E)
