Statement of Significance

This private garden was designed for Mrs H Ledger of Benalla in 1928 by the late Miss Edna Walling. It is one of the earliest gardens by this noted landscape designer. It was constructed by Mr E Hammond.
The garden has many of the characteristic elements used by Miss Walling; long stone seating wall; collonade; stone paving; informal tennis court; pond; wild corner. The planting is mostly exotic and all typical of her style. The original drawing of the garden survives in excellent condition (the Trust holds a copy). The garden has changed very little over the years, with much of the original planting surviving. It remains as a charming, picturesque garden, now in full maturity.
