Horticultural value A native of China, the tree is the oldest and one of only a few specimens of this species in Victoria. The site, now occupied by an office block, was the location for the first brick and stone building in the Port Phillip District settlement in the 1830s, the Government Storehouse (erected in 1838). It is possible that the tree was brought in by one of the first settlers.
