Statement of Significance

Horticultural value
Historical value

Located between Queen and Watson Streets.
This World War I Avenue of Honour wasplanted in the early 1920s to commemorate Wallan's soldiers. The number of trees represent the number of citizens who served. This planting is the only major one of this cultivar known in Victoria, possibly Australian and unknown internationally. Isolated trees occur in St Kilda Road, Gisborne, and Kyneton Botanic Gardens. While the two rows are widely spaced and have not grown to a large size they make an important contribution to the landscape.
