Statement of Significance

Contribution to landscape of historic cemetery.

The Hepburn family has a small cemetery near their house. The present day family has given the graveyard to the National Trust. The earliest grave is 1860; the latest 1970. The site is on the Historic Buildings Register. The perimeter of the cemetery is planted with pines and cypresses. There is also one Araucaria bidwillii and a Cedrus deodara. Six trees have died (or are dying), another five look unsound from the ground. The private cemetery 'Hepburn Graves' is located 3km north-west of Smeaton.
