This is the only mature example known in cultivation in Victoria. While originally native to Mexico and Central America the species has a pantropical distribution incorporating Northern Australia and Southern Asia. It is now considered a weed in Fiji. It is very attractive tree, distinguised by round pods and small sharp twin spines. It is widely cultivated for its oil for usein perfume.
