Contribution to the landscape. This English Oak is a prominent and attractive tree in the landscape. Quercus robur is one of the most common park trees in south-eastern Australia and is noted for its vigorous, luxuriant growth. Mr Retallack purchased 3 acres in 1881 and built the large house named 'Carnbrae Two' after a castle in Cornwall. It was bought by Misses Mitchell in 1908 who then sold it to Messrs Manifold Cuthbert & Bailey for the establishment of Queens College. The site is now the Ballarat campus of the Australian Catholic University.
