Statement of Significance

A deep alluvial gold-washing sluice pit, permanently watered, providing many habitats for native animals, including eastern water rat, squirrel glider, water snakes and skinks. Known birds are kingfisher, rainbow bird, coots, reed warblers, herons, grebes and ducks. It contains Blakely's Red Gum (E. blakleyi) on the flats, surrounded by a woodland of But But (E. bridgesiana), Long-leaved Box (E. goniocalyx), Red Box (E. polyanthemos), and Red Stringybark (E. macrorrhyncha). While on the banks there is Silver Wattle (Acacia dealbata), Varnish Wattle (A. verniciflua), and Cherry Ballarat (Exocarpos cupressiformis). There is a rich development of water plants, including water milfoil.
