Statement of Significance

The landscape of the Happy Valley River provides a fertile pastoral scene with a gently undulating valley floor. On all sides the valley is surrounded by forested escarpments and ridges, which successively open and close the views. Dry sclerophyll forest covers the slopes, contrasting with the sensitively cleared valley floor. Seen from Tawonga Road, the view is one of tranquillity, with the magnificent Mt. Buffalo massif dominating as a backdrop. The valley depth is defined by a succession of low ridges and belts of timber in the middle ground. The lushness of the valley floor is highlighted in winter by the brilliant snow on the peak of Mt. Buffalo.
