The O'Shannassy Catchment is considered to be of national botanical and zoological significance as it is one of the few areas left in Victoria where mature wet schlerophyll forests still exist over a large area and are not likely to be subjected to logging. Although the Tarra Valley and Bulga National Parks contain this type of forest they are probably too small to enable the maintenance of an undisturbed community and Sherbrooke Forest is subjected to very high tourist usage. LOCATION AND BOUNDARIES: The O'Shannassy Catchment is located north of the Warburton Highway, east of Warburton.
