Statement of Significance

Two miles of estuarine waters and swamp land are separated from the ocean beach by a complex of coastal dunes. The Wonthaggi railway line protects the north-western end of this linear area from unlimited public access, but a side road gives ready vehicular access to the river mouth.

LOCATION:

Bass Strait coastline, 5 miles north-west of Wonthaggi. Includes the Public Purposes Reserve from Bourke Creek to the east and to the west.
