Small embayment of salt marsh and mangroves, with sand dunes on northern side. Southern side, fluriatite deposits or cliff of felspathic grit, ankoses and mudstone. Marsh provides habitat for large number of aquatic birds. LOCATION: North-eastern coastline of Phillip Island, Western Port Bay.
Sand dunes carry mature stand of Coastal Tea-tree and Coastal Banksia with associated coastal shrubs. Apart from the similar floristic community at Sandy Point, this stand is the best preserved in the Mornington Peninsula-Western Port region (other stands may be present on French Island).
Landscape values considerable near Rhyll but decrease on lower land.
